Delivering Two Hand Therapy Courses at UMC of El Paso
In the Spring of 2025, at the University Medical Center of El Paso, a pivotal health hub and esteemed hospital in the Southwest. I had the honour of delivering two comprehensive Hand Therapy courses on the assessment and treatment of the TFCC and Peripheral Nerves. An eager audience of approximately 70 therapists from diverse rehabilitation backgrounds attended.
Why UMC of El Paso is such an influential venue:
- Teaching Hospital Role: As the primary teaching hospital associated with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at Texas Tech, UMC serves as a vital training ground for emerging healthcare leaders.
- Advanced Regional Center: The hospital is the only Level 1 Trauma Center within a 250-mile radius and houses the region’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center, demonstrating its critical role in managing complex, high-acuity rehabilitation cases.
- Dedicated Rehabilitation Services:UMC's Rehabilitation Services cover a wide spectrum of inpatient and outpatient services - from hand injuries to orthopaedic, neurological, trauma-related and advanced wound care therapies.
Teaching these two Hand Therapy courses at UMC of El Paso was more than a professional exchange. It was a meaningful stride toward elevating rehabilitation standards in a region that depends on such expertise. The collective energy of the therapists, combined with UMC’s educational and clinical strengths, made it a truly rewarding experience.
